The name of our church, Generations, is rooted in God’s heart expressed clearly throughout scripture regarding the importance of intergenerational relationships. Deuteronomy 6:7-9, Psalm 78, Psalm 145, Malachi 4, Ephesians 5, Titus 2 and much of the book of Proverbs are just a few texts that communicate our responsibility for modeling and teaching children to honor and worship God with their whole lives and leaving a legacy that teaches future generations to do the same. We believe, like ancient Israel, that the people of God are most effectively multiplied and sustained through the vehicle of family. Functionally, this means we include children and youth in every thing we can as a church. At a time when "life-stage ministry" is normative, our vision begins with children participating in corporate worship at our gatherings alongside their parents. Though we will offer excellent care for infants during the entire service, this means we may have a crying or giggling toddler from time to time. We believe this honors God as we invite children to be an integrated part of our body which allows them to learn how to worship from their parents and other adults who love them and love Jesus. During preaching and teaching, we offer kids Preschool through 6th grade age appropriate material that allows them to learn about Jesus, the bible, and how to apply the gospel to their lives even at their early age. We have a firm conviction that children have a unique capacity not only to know and love Jesus, but to encourage each other through the power of the Holy Spirit and to minister to and teach us as adults. In our understanding of kingdom dynamics, children play an important role (Psalm 8:2) that we must pay attention to and release, so we are committed to training them and giving them opportunity to apply what they learn. |
